SONGLINES MAGAZINE
Inspired by the lineage of Afrobeat from Fela Kuti to Antibalas via modern-day psychedelia of The Heliocentrics, Mancunian powerhouse Agbeko write their own chapter combining Ethio-jazz, British Protest Song and a penchant for the raucous. An onslaught of horns, driven grooves, moving lyrics and cathartic soloing, Agbeko have a decade-long track record for performing major UK festivals including Boomtown, Green Man, Kendal Calling, and Manchester Jazz Festival, as well as in France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia and Malta. They represented hometown Manchester in WOMEX 24’s opening concert at The Bridgewater Hall.
